The Irish Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Seán Fleming (@SeanFlemingTD), held the inaugural meeting of the Joint Fintech Group on November 16. The Joint Fintech Group is a priority of the 2022 update of Ireland for Finance strategy, unveiled in October.
The purpose of the group is to provide strategic guidance on the state’s industrial strategy for digital finance from the perspective of an industry expert. Moreover, the tasks of this initiative are
- Inform the state of the future skills and education needs of the sector;
- Act as a pre-consultation forum for policy and legislative developments related to digital finance;
- act as a forum for the private and public sectors to exchange views on the critical points of the European Commission’s digital finance agenda.
“I was delighted to have organized and chaired the first meeting of the Joint Fintech Group this week. Government and industry must pull together to develop the digital finance sector in Ireland. It was a very open and productive meeting focused on the key opportunities for Ireland. I have asked industry representatives to provide the group with a list of priorities to be discussed at the next meeting.”
