Dutch PayTech Company Mollie Promotes CTO Koen Koeppen To CEO!

Amsterdam-based payment service provider Mollie will appoint its current Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Koen Koeppen, as its new CEO. Koeppen will replace Mollie‘s current CEO, Shane Happach, who is leaving the company after about two years to take on a new role in Asia.

Before joining Mollie, Happach spent more than a decade at payments heavyweight Worldpay (now part of FIS), most recently as head of global e-commerce.

In his new role, Mollie says Koeppen will be tasked with “simplifying complex financial services and providing a level playing field for small and mid-sized e-commerce companies looking to take on larger competitors.” The company adds that an “important” part of his role will also be to increase the pace of product development and delivery, “having previously turned Klarna into a product delivery machine.”

Koeppen joined the Dutch paytech company last June. Before that, he spent more than a decade at Klarna, where he held several leadership positions and became the company’s CTO nearly five years ago.

Founded in 2004, Mollie provides payment solutions to more than 130,000 businesses in Europe.

The company has an international team of over 750 employees with offices across Europe, including Amsterdam, Lisbon, London, Munich and Paris.
